EarthxHack 2020 Logistics!
Hey there, EarthxHack 2020 is this weekend!
We're excited to interact with you during this weekend's EarthxHack online! We'll also be starting our talks and workshops on Wednesday, so be on the lookout on our social media for updates!
But before you do that, there are some important things that we think you might need to know, you might just have a few questions too!
First of all, this year's live site is the ultimate source of information. We will also be living streaming all of our workshops, talks, and activities there on the front page. You can also check out all of our challenges and prizes on the live site. https://astr.sk/earthxhack-live
This year, our Discord will be the official communication platform during the event. You can interact with other attendees, mentors, sponsors, and staff members there. https://astr.sk/earthxhack-discord
Questions about EarthxHack?
- Where can I see what's happening during the event? The live site, and more specifically the schedule, is your point of contact for everything happening during the event - from announcements to the live stream to submitting your project, everything can be easily accessed from the live site!
- What is discord used for? Discord is the official communication platform of EarthxHack 2020. You can find announcements, chat with participants, get mentorship, post memes, and more on Discord. If you need somewhere to chat with your team, please feel free to create a private group and have voice chat there as well.
- What is Zoom used for? Certain live sessions will have a Zoom meeting available for you to join. You can join these sessions to interact with each other and the presenters. The Zoom sessions will be live streamed onto our primary stream, so you don’t have to join the Zoom to see the content.
- How do I submit a project? See the Submitting a Project tab on the live site for more info.
- Can I have a team that's larger than the team size? No, this isn’t allowed. We will award prizes equally to each listed member of the team on Devpost.
- I'm an international resident and curious about taxes on prizes. Each prize is subject to tax laws in the country of its awarder. For most prizes, the laws of the United States of America apply, which state that all international prize winnings must be taxed at a rate of 30%. This percentage will be deducted from your winnings. Physical prizes are exempt from this. Prizes awarded by iCreate are taxed according to the laws of India, which has a separate taxation scheme. In all cases, you must fill out tax forms before the prize can be released.
- What's the deal with swag? Prize winners and other challenge winners will get a swag bag shipped to their address in the Asterisk registration system sometime after the event. You’ll also be able to purchase swag after the event for just the cost of shipping - more details will be released after the event!
- Where can I get help? Contact us on the Discord by joining the #helpdesk channel or you can send us an email at hello@weareasterisk.com.
- Someone is harassing me - what do I do? Contact a staff member on Discord (identifiable by their Staff group membership) or at hello@weareasterisk.com.
